Permission to Change
Last month, I wrote about how life is like a spiral. We move forward, and then we circle back. We revisit old lessons with new perspectives. We discover that something we once wanted no longer feels right, while something else we never considered suddenly becomes important. Our priorities change as our circumstances change — as we change.
So why do we expect our choices to remain fixed?
We make decisions based on who we are, what we know, and what we believe at a particular moment in time. Then life happens. We gain experience, we learn something new, or our lives unexpectedly shift. Thus, it is only natural that our priorities would evolve. Sometimes, our own thinking is challenged in ways we never expected. And if we don’t allow ourselves to change our minds, make course corrections, and create new goals based on what life has taught us, how can we expect to live our lives to the fullest?
How can we reach our highest potential if we remain committed to a path simply because we once decided it was the "right" one?
Living fully requires us to trust ourselves enough to take risks—even when those risks may alter the course of our lives. Sometimes, that means changing direction. Sometimes, it means choosing something we never imagined for ourselves. And sometimes, it means allowing an experience to challenge what we thought we knew.
Astrology as a Guide for Change
Astrology helps us navigate our lives and gives us courage to make necessary changes when it's time. Through planetary movements and archetypal symbolism, we recognize when we're being called to let go, grow, spread our wings, and embark on a new path.
What better time to consider the changes we may need to make than during a seasonal transition? Now, just beyond the autumnal equinox, we are invited to shift our perspective, adjust our course, and prepare for what comes next.
On October 23rd, the Sun moves from Libra, a cardinal air sign, into Scorpio, a fixed water sign. In astrology, the cardinal signs initiate. They carry the energy of beginning, movement, and taking action. Libra season can therefore be a wonderful time to reconsider our choices, explore new possibilities, and—yes—give ourselves permission to change our minds!
But once we enter Scorpio season, the energy shifts.
Scorpio is fixed. Its energy is more deliberate, focused, and determined. Rather than continually looking for what comes next, Scorpio asks us to dig deeper into what we have chosen and stay with it long enough to discover what can emerge through our sustained effort.
There is wisdom in both. Sometimes we need the courage to change direction. Other times, we need the courage to stay the course. The question is knowing which one is being asked of us.
Scorpio is a sign that demands self-honesty.
It asks us to look beneath the surface and recognize where we may be living out of habit, obligation, fear, or someone else's expectations rather than from a place of authenticity. You may want to glance at your own chart and see where Scorpio energies affect you most.
Some good questions for reflection are:
-Are your actions aligned with your values?
-Are the goals you're pursuing still meaningful to you?
-Are you staying committed because something truly matters—or because you're afraid of what might happen if you change course?
If you discover that something is no longer aligned, perhaps this is your reminder that you are allowed to change. You are allowed to grow beyond an old goal. You are allowed to choose differently than you once did.
Trust yourself enough to listen when something within you is asking for a different direction. After all, it is your happiness—not anyone else’s—that should matter most when making choices about your life.
