The more we create, the more Spirit gives us to create with. The more creative ideas we act upon, the more Spirit sends us to implement. This can be both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, you’ve got tons of ideas flowing, but on the other, you can’t catch a break! So how do you stay afloat with all the inspiration hitting you like a fire hose? You do the best you can. I study astrology because it helps me understand things from a bigger perspective. You won’t always have time to write down your ideas, or the alone time you need to get inspired, but you can pray and ask for reminders to come at the perfect time, and then they will. I think what’s most important, is that you honor yourself wherever you are on any given day.
How to balance all the energies? Mars wants us to take action, move, exercise, and be active. Mercury wants us to communicate ideas, teach, learn, and connect with others. Venus wants us to love and nurture our most intimate relationships, and then there’s the Sun and Moon – perhaps our most personal luminaries – the Sun representing our ego desires and our will, and the Moon reflecting our emotional body. While all of these planets have important messages to share, we have to learn the art of planetary delegation or else we become massively overwhelmed and just decide not to care. This is why I recommend taking everything you learn piece by piece.
Here's one thing to keep in mind: the Sun helps us direct our actions constructively and stay in alignment with our true needs, while the moon keeps us in touch with our emotions, reminding us when we need to slow down and nurture ourselves. When all else fails, just ask yourself, do I need rest? Or do I need constructive action? Then you can align with either the energy of the Moon or the Sun dependent upon which energies are most dominant in you.
If you’ve got the yang, active energy of the Sun onboard, you can then ask yourself, do I want to invite in Mercury and write a blog? Or go socialize with friends? If not, you may want to invite in Venus’ energy for a quiet, self-pampering night at home. The point is, it’s not always as important to follow every transit and wait for every aspect to make your decision. Most of the time, we can just look to how our bodies feel to get an idea of what’s going on within us. As above, so below, as within, so without.
When we step back, and view astrology from a spiritual perspective - from a self-growth or soul development standpoint - it’s easier to take in all the directives coming at us. I believe astrology works best when we use it as a conscious tool for awakening. I do not get concerned with daily horoscopes because I want the big picture themes. I have enough to think about in my everyday life, and I’m sure you do too. So, when I teach astrology, I focus on the largest transits or aspects at play.
Then the client can focus on one area of life, one quality to develop, heal, or let go of, and it simplifies the process. One thing I love about astrology, is that there is always something more to learn! The planets send us messages about how we are being asked to grow, the houses show us where in our lives this is occurring, and the signs give us the flavor, or the energy (yin / yang, cardinal / fixed / mutable) that we possess throughout this change.
Once understood and followed, astrology offers us numerous tools for self-growth and unending opportunities for psychological and spiritual maturity. My only advice is, don’t overwhelm yourself; take it one layer at a time. Eventually, what is naturally most important will jump out at you, and you won’t have to worry about all the rest.
